Recycling is a confusing world so I have created a page of the most common frequently asked questions about recycling and what can and cannot be recycled.

Depends, black plastic can be recycled, however not all Local Authorities take black plastic as it has a much lower resale value than other types of plastic, so I would check with your Local Authority.

Yes, providing the contents is used up, aerosol cans can be recycled in your kerbside recycling.

Depends, non-crunchy plastic film ie -plastic bags and bread bags can be recycled. Some Local Authorities collect it and supermarkets collect it. The crunchy plastic film found on food packaging i.e prepared salads and film lids off fruit, cannot be recycled.

Why can’t I recycle my food waste with my green waste?

You cannot recycle your food waste with your green waste because they both undergo different processes to recycle them. Food waste often goes to a biodigester to create biogas. The green waste often gets composted and sold at your local household waste site as compost.
